Your Application

The application form plays a key part in our decision whether or not to invite you for interview, so it is important that you complete it as fully and as accurately as possible. While the following information is designed to assist applications, you should bear in mind that it is for you, the candidate, to demonstrate your suitability for a post in completing your application form.

A competency framework has been developed to ensure that staff understand the performance and behaviours, attitudes and skills needed for their role. The person specification for any post you apply for should include relevant competencies for the role alongside other needs including professional and technical competencies. The shortlistling panel will decide who to interview on the basis of the information provided in the application measured against the person specification/competencies. The competency framework is available here.

The person specification lists qualities such as experience and qualifications etc which are ‘essential’ in order to do the job and those which are ‘desirable’ ie those which will help somebody to perform the complete range of tasks in the job more readily. It is important therefore, that you complete the application form bearing in mind the job requirements as shown in the job description, person specification and competencies.

Remember

  • To complete all parts of the application form. If you think some parts do not apply, write N/A (not applicable) in the spaces provided.
  • To make sure the information you provide is clear, precise and easily understood and appropriate to the job you are applying for.
  • That we will not make any assumptions about you or your abilities. If you do not tell us, we cannot know.
Do:
  • Check with your referees that they are happy to support your application before you submit the form.
  • Take a copy of your application, if possible, before you return it.
  • Be sure to return your application by the due date. Applications received after the closing date will not normally be considered.

Do Not:

  • Refer us to your current job description.
  • Say ‘I can do the job and will give details at interview’. You need to show on the application form precisely what you have done and when you did it.
  • Leave out any relevant information on skills, knowledge or experience - for example, voluntary work or unpaid work.
  • Worry if you have gained your qualification overseas. If relevant, it will be taken into account.
  • Submit a CV application. This will only be considered if submitted as part of a fully completed application form (or in respect of disabled applications, another agreed format).

What happens to my data once you have received my application form?

If you apply for a vacancy with us, your details go into our recruitment database: this triggers the start of the recruitment process. Your application details, minus the equal opportunity information, will then be passed to the recruiting line manager who will create the short list.

If you are selected for interview, your application details will be used during the interview stage to clarify your skills and experiences. Successful candidates’ details will then go into the HR database and employee file: unsuccessful candidate details will be kept on the recruitment database for 12 months then destroyed.

Is the data I provide within the application form secure?

To process your online application form, we need to transmit your personal details over the internet. Our recruitment website utilises encryption technology, ensuring that any communication with the website and the recruitment database cannot be intercepted and understood by outsiders.

Why must I submit the monitoring section of the application form?

By completing this section the information will help us deliver on our commitment to equal opportunities. This information will be separated from your application form and will not be used as part of the selection process.
