Job description
Hours: 37 hour per week plus 6 hrs contractual overtime
Contract Type: Permanent
Service Area: Neighbourhood Environmental Services
Department: Waste and Recycling
This is an exciting opportunity to manage a dynamic operational team with a reputation for delivering high quality services, in a front facing customer role.
We are looking for an experienced
waste management professional to help shape the future delivery of the Council's waste & recycling services. You will manage and develop the Council's in-house operational services, leading a team of 150 staff within our refuse and recycling collection service - putting our residents and customers at the heart of our services.
If you have excellent demonstrable leadership skills, extensive experience of the waste industry, and relish the challenge of implementing operational efficiencies & maximising productivity whilst delivering a quality public service - then we would love to hear from you.
The successful candidate will be commercially minded, politically aware and able to demonstrate significant operational management experience.
You will need to be a self-motivated individual with a business approach that is geared to meet the financial challenges ahead and will possess the business acumen to help deliver the service in the most cost effective manner.
You will be someone who is entrepreneurial and relishes a challenge, with the confidence to be able to deputise for the Head of Operational Service.
You will have the operational experience to directly manage our domestic refuse and recycling, and bulky waste collections.
You will be required to work across all of our Neighbourhood operational services (collections, recycling, cleansing, fleet, parks, grounds maintenance etc.) and provide management cover & support as required.
You will be a NEBOSH holder, or be prepared to gain this qualification within 12 months of employment.
You will be a COTC holder.
You will have proven people skills and customer service skills, together with the ability to apply strategic thinking to challenges as they arise.
You will have a "customer first" approach and the gravitas to be able to manage appropriate team behaviours in this regard.
You will represent Waste operational services at service planning, partnership, contract & regulatory meetings.
You will work 5 days per week, including bank holidays. You may be required to work weekends on a rota to cover wider operational duties.
25 days holiday or 30 days leave after 5 years service + 8 days public holiday.
