Bath & North East Somerset Council is a highly successful unitary local authority. Responsible for cGBP 344m budget annually, we deliver vital public services, from highways and property management to complex social support. Working within a challenging financial context, we rely on innovative financial thinking and inspired strategic planning to ensure we deploy our resources to maximise value and impact for our 189,000 residents.
Directly responsible to our newly appointed Chief Executive, Will Godfrey, you will be advising him, Corporate Directors, Cabinet and the Council on finance strategy and management, ensuring that the council successfully delivers a balanced budget as part of its Medium Term Financial Strategy as well as planning for the long-term to ensure financial sustainability into the future.
This is a key role, leading the council's Finance, Pensions, Procurement and Audit Teams and delivering our financial strategy, working across the Council's diverse service portfolios to achieve our considerable change agenda, particularly in adult and children's social care funding. You will work closely with Finance Directors across the West of England Combined Authority (WECA), the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and to ensure we maximise value from the council owned company Aequus Development Limited.
You will already be in a senior finance role with substantial experience of working at the highest influencing level in a public sector, local authority, or similar multi-faceted organisation. You will have first rate technical knowledge but uniquely this will be matched by your excellent leadership and facilitation skills. You will be comfortable managing considerable change and be a positive role model for the people you lead.
